Travel Tips for North Rustico PEI

North Rustico is a breath taking beautiful fishing village on the North Shore of the island nestled between the red sands cliffs of the Cavendish side and the white sand dunes of the Stanhope side of Prince Edward Island National Park. 10 minute from Cavendish and 40 minutes from Charlottetown.

Atlantic Sailing sunset cruise

You can rent a boat and tour Rustico Bay for swimming, touring the shoreline or bring your fishing pole at Drift Inn Tours. The best memories start with dinner around the table with friends and family. Each boat has a BBQ in the middle where you can cook food on your trip. Maybe some lobster and seafood skewers or hotdogs and hamburgers. Add majestic scenery, wildlife, in a silent electric powered boat you have the perfect adventure. Bridal parties, family fun, girls night out or a romantic getaway. Your private boat can provide it all for you!

If you are an early riser, you can watch a gorgeous sunrise from the North Harbour pier while fishing for bass and mackerel or simply enjoying the spectacular view. You can also head out to Orby Head and bring your lawn chair for phenomenal sunrise or sunsets while over looking the ocean from the highest lookout point in the National Park. The sunset is second only to our sunset cruise where you can enjoy the last of today’s light dancing off the red cliffs.

You can buy a National Park pass for unlimited return trips to the park and it’s beaches. If you purchase it online before the early bird deadline it’s extremely affordable.

Mackenzie Brook - PEI National Park

The next lookout west of Orby Head is Mackenzie brook, now a teapot since it's collapse from the hurricane. The red sand next to the green of the trees and the blue of the ocean is a memory you will cherish a lifetime.

RV’rs will love the treed sites of the National Park and there is a boondock spot overlooking the ocean at the tip of the road out to north harbour where you can watch the sunrise and feel the ocean if you have a van or small motorhome. Just be careful of the tides. You can park on the inner beach and let your dog run off leash but when the tide comes in the beach is swallowed by the ocean.

Romantic Getaway
One of the gems of North Rustico when you visit us. The Watermark theatre puts on amazing shows with extremely talented actors in an intimate setting. We love the theatre each summer. Do a romantic sunset sail with us, stay the night and be pampered at The Lookout Inn or The Graham Inn and their indoor pool. Spend the day at the beach, luxurious dinner at Dhalia's (Rustico Resort) or the Blue Mussel Cafe and live theatre at Watermark Theatre. What a romantic getaway!

North Rustico is known for it’s Deep Sea fishing charters. There are 9 operators out of the harbour so you are pretty much guaranteed to get a spot. Go out and catch some mackerel or cod and later in the season go for the big Tuna catch and release. We really like Off The Hook Deep Sea Fishing as their captain is great with the kids and works hard to get you to the best spots.

The Town of North Rustico and Seawalk Park & Boutiques in the center of town do a wonderful job all summer of providing free entertainment for the whole family. There are gift boutiques on the Harbour Drive side of the park and you will want to shop at the Seawalk Park Boutiques and one of the best ice-cream establishments in the area. Canada Day is a spectacular event in North Rustico with one of the largest celebrations east of Ottawa. Two parades (boat and car) with free live entertainment all day in the park. At dusk there is a huge fireworks display over the harbour. Keep an eye on North Rustico’s page for all the entertainment listings.

Prince Edward island is, after all, the food island and North Rustico has no shortage of great food! Dahlia's at Rustico Resort has great food with a patio over looking Rustico Bay. Pedro's Island Eatery is the worst kept local secret. Pedro is a world renowned chef that offers an affordable yet delightful menu that has a constantly changing specials menu. You will not be disappointed. Up the road at Rustico Harbour there is the Blue Mussel Cafeand On the Dock Eatery. When you walk into the Blue Mussel you are transported to a spectacular beach front restaurant. A little more upscale with the menu and the food is delicious. Rated as one of the island’s top restaurants, you will not want to miss. Enjoy a coffee, lunch or dessert at Tides and Tales and On the Dock has potato nachos that you will want to try while sitting on the patio over looking the harbour.

There are lots of RV parks in the area with pools and cottages like our favourite Tranquility Campground and Cottages or the family fun and water park of Marco Polo Land Campground. If being pampered at a bed and breakfast is more your style then The Lookout Inn in New Glascow or Coastal Escape PEI.

There is a bus service from Charlottetown to North Rusticowith daily trips to/from... and many attractions in the area. Glasgow Glen Farm you can get fire roasted pizza and amazing gouda cheese. Prince Edward Island Preserve Co. is a must stop along with The Toy Factory in New Glascow.
